Happy Saturday Everyone!
Thank you for taking time out of your day to tune in! This is a new show for the Cape Fear Region and we are excited to be here.
A
safe affordable, sanitary place to live. Sounds easy..sounds like
something that is just what we all have. But it is not easily accessible
to many in our own community. Well, today, our guests not only make it
their mission to see that each person has a safe, affordable, and
sanitary place to live, but places that are homes of dignity and of
substance…It is my honor today to introduce you to…
Mr. Michael Krause, Executive Director and CEO of the Wilmington Housing Authority and HEO
Mr. Steve Spain, Executive Director, Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity
20 N 4th St # 200 Wilmington, NC 28401
Through community partnerships and passionate volunteers, Habitat
constructs quality homes at a significantly lower cost than government
or for-profit organizations. This allows us to provide no-interest,
30-year mortgages to qualified families. To help our families succeed,
we offer credit counseling, mentoring, and education programs.

I
SPY: I have had the honor of becoming an member of a newly formed group
that grew out of a Mayor's task force. Here, once a month, a group
comes together to address the needs of all persons with disabilities. It
is astounding to see the volunteer participation at this group. Police,
fire, county, city, advocacy groups and individuals all sitting in this
room, packed seeking ways in which to find solutions to addressing
onstacles, sharing resources, and formulating means to convey inclusive
messaging for persons with disabilies accross our region. At this
meeting, a large population of elderly and disabled persons were told
they no longer were going to have a service that meant accesss for them.
This group desgined, and unanimously decided to move forward with
vocing concern and sharing how this impact could potentially impact
these citizens. WIthout this voice, a decision could continue unabated
and there be no change. But there is a solution and this group, focused
on what it can do and how it can employ its resources, put them into
action. It was a wonderful thing to witness and be a part of. This a
number of things make this so special and so this week, I SPY the Cape
Fear Disability Commission and all the good work they are employed in
doing, the change they are a part of, and the advocacy they are about.
Giving a voice to those without a voice, or a voice that is unified and
shared among the many advocates is so powerful and this group has a
strong and powerful voice of solutions for our entire community!
Affirmation and sign off:
HAVE A NICE DAY, UNLESS YOU HAVE MADE OTHER PLANS!
